I had the most wonderful day today listening to inspirational stories about life, parenting, and business.  To say this was a business event, well….it wasn’t.  Many of the “suits” left after Social Media Evangelist, Scott Stratton, @unmarketing, spoke.  To each their own.

140 Conference - Kitchener Ontario

I was so fortunate to be online last night to win my chance to see these fabulous speakers at first Canadian 140 Conference.  Thanks @ambermac for selecting me.

Created by Jeff Pulver, the #140conf events provide a platform for the worldwide twitter community to: listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time internet on business.

Organizers, the beautiful Julia Rosien and super event planner Lisa McDonald, did a wonderful job selecting the list of speakers chosen for the first Canadian 140 Conference.  Kudos for your hard work!!

I have to say there was no such thing as a long winded speech because the speaker’s have about three and a half minutes to say what they have to say and wind down their message.

Which tweeps resonated with me the most?

Scott Stratten – @unmarketing
Since I was there for business, Scott Stratten, knocked it out of the park by providing one simple line.

“What is the ROI of Social Media?  Well let me ask you, what is the ROI of talking?”

Amber Mac – @Ambermac
From the days of TechTV and reading emails for Leo LaPorte until today, Amber Mac has always impressed me.

Her talk about philanthropy and charity was truly inspiring.

Heather Hamilton – @tjzmommy
Wow, what a warrior this woman is.  After losing her son Zack, her mission to give back is a story of love, compassion, and strength is amazing.   She’s my new hero by the way!

Tears!

 Neil Hedley – @neilhedley
I love Neil because he IS the meaning of Twitter.  No cliques and always willing to lend a hand. I love that he started the Poster Boy Campaign in Kitchener.  I looked for him after the conference, but I lost him.  🙁
Jane Wilson – @AradiaOakville
This had nothing to do with Twitter in my opinion but YOW what a personal love turned into thriving business story.

Although these speakers touched me on a level that I could relate with, there were many other wonderful speakers. I have to give a shout-out to @TJ, who, at 22, started blogging his photography only months ago and is on a plane, on Tuesday, to LA to discuss opportunities. He also has a book deal with Harper Collins in the works.

@KevinaMagee (thanks for the book and the wonderful hospitality you showed your guests), @AnnDouglas, you rock!….the list goes on and on.  We can’t forget the Happy Birthday wishes sent to @Chris_Eh_Young’s daughter!

I also met a few wonderful people from London and Toronto Area.  This is what twitter is all about after all!  I am very blessed to make these personal and business contacts.  At the very least I did not have to sit in a corner alone because I’m relatively shy (unless I’m the hostess).

If you ever come across the 140 Conference in your area, I highly recommend attending even if it is simply for a piece of inspiration.
