Everyone knows that we love a good hotel while vacationing.  We simply love having fresh linens, a comfortable mattress, and warm hospitality wherever we go.  This Father’s Day, we are taking a mini-vacation to Toronto to attend the MMVAs and visit some local museums.

My husband is not really interested in our celebrity viewing escapades, therefore, he has chosen to take my son to the Ontario Science Center and perhaps the ROM.  I am imagining a fun-filled weekend with good food and family time!

As my own Father reaches the age of 75, Father’s Day has become something very special to me.  It is a day to recognize him from across the miles.  I try to stress to my kids the importance of having a Father, as many times, the men in our lives get overlooked despite putting in a hard day’s work and bringing home the bacon.

This year, I plan on surprising my husband with a stay at the Fairmont Royal York and partaking in some of the events planned on Father’s Day.

The Royal York Treatment

Calling all fathers… The Fairmont Royal York hotel is teaching Dad a lesson this Father’s Day – a lesson in beer, whiskey and food pairing that is. Dads who like to dine may choose from the EPIC Father’s Day Brewmaster’s Dinner, featuring a pre-fix menu with a selection of beers from the local Mill Street Brewery, or an afternoon of whiskey tasting paired to canapés in the York Station Bar, on Sunday June 17, 2012.

Dinner Fit for a King

EPIC Restaurant chef, Tim Palmer, will prepare parmesan crusted jumbo sea scallops; bacon wrapped Canadian prime beef tenderloin, and close dinner with traditional sticky toffee pudding for Dad’s Mill St. Brewmaster’s Dinner. Costing $79 ( exclusive of tax and grats) per person, the dinner will be from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the hotel’s signature EPIC restaurant on June 17, 2012.

Mill St. Brewery’s brewmaster, Joel Manning, will educate Dads on the history of beer. Covering the nuances of flavour, aroma and style, and Dads depart with their own Mill St. taster six pack, as the swag of the evening. Call EPIC at 416-860-6469 to make a reservation or email [email protected]

Test Some Whiskey

When afternoon Father’s Day celebrations are in order, the smallest bar in Toronto, York Station Bar, is the ideal location for a Father’s day nip.  Only 20 spots are available for this rare pouring of four single malt whiskies. Costing $39 per person ( includes taxes, exclusive of grats), the tasting begins at 2:30 p.m. through to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 17. Call 416-860-5097 to reserve.

Celebrate the Full Weekend in Toronto

Before or after enjoying Father’s Day, guests may take advantage of The Fairmont Royal York’s a la carte Father’s Stay Rate of $159 on Saturday, June 16 or Sunday, June 17 (subject to availability in 2012 and exclusive of taxes).

We’ll be sure to keep everyone posted over Father’s Day weekend!  Enjoy your Father next Sunday and do something memorable!
