It’s no surprise that Ellen Degeneres aced her role as Master of Ceremonies at the 86th Annual Academy Awards.   Heck, she could host a pig auction (not that she would being a vegan) and find a way to get the pigs involved.

This was one of the most enjoyable Oscars in history with Ellen rolling with the punches by joking with the celebrities and maintaining a positive light without being mean-spirited.  (Don’t worry Jennifer Lawrence, I fall as much as you do.  Wait till you’re 40, the bruises will come.)  I hope that we see more of Ellen on the Oscar stage for years to come.

Best Oscar Jokes of the Night

“Who are we kidding? It’s the Hunger Games. I mean, there are cameras everywhere, you’re starving, Jennifer Lawrence won last year.”

To Jonah Hill: “You showed us something in that film that I have not seen for a very, very long time.”

“Who are we kidding? It’s the Hunger Games. I mean, there are cameras everywhere, you’re starving, Jennifer Lawrence won last year.”

On Jennifer Lawrence’s tripping: “If you win tonight, I think we should bring you the Oscar.”

On Barkhad Abdi: “He is from Somalia. He is a Sommelier so he knows a lot about wine, and that is impressive. Who’s the wine captain now?!”

The selfie pick and asking Meryl Streep to get out of the picture to take the picture.

The 2014 Oscar Winners

The winner’s circle was by far the most impressive of the night.   I was so proud of Lupita Nyong’o who took home Best Supporting Actress for her role in 12 Years a Slave.  Her speech was full of inspiration and gratitude to Director Steve McQueen for creating such an important film.  “Dreams do come true.”

Winners List

Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine
Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club
Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong’o, 12 Years a Slave

2014 Oscars Best Dressed

It’s always humorous to hear fashionistas talk about the best and worst dressed on the biggest night in Hollywood. I mean it’s obvious that even if they threw their look together, celebrities have the ability pull it off better than most of us!

For myself, Sandra Bullock, in a draped sweetheart Alexander McQueen design and Jennifer Lawrence, in a Dior Haute Couture gown, were my picks for Best Dressed.   They all try so hard to make their attire work that even Pharrell looked stylin in his Tuxedo!  Kudos to all of the stylists and designers who try so hard to dress these privileged individuals.
