It started with four girls who didn’t all know each other, on a road trip to Casino Rama to see Randy Houser. Casino Rama graciously gave us a room for free for the night and that is where it all started with a few drinks and some bonding over life stories!

Now I have been a Randy Houser fan for as long as I can remember, and this would be my 5th time seeing him in concert. As much as I love watching him in concert, I also love to watch the reactions of people who have never seen him live before. The Mississippi born native started off his show belting out What Whiskey Does and got the crowd asking for more! He followed up with some Waylon Jenning’s Good Hearted Women and Willie Nelson’s On The Road Again.

Over the course of the next hour and a half we heard some of Randy’s older music like Boots On, Whistling Dixie and Whole Lotta Quitting, some of his most popular songs like We Went and How Country Feels, and many songs from his latest album Magnolia. Magnolia seemed to have a bit of a new sound with more of a Southern Rock sound but it still sounded amazing. Anytime I have seen Randy in the past, he was always an opening act for someone else, but this time he spent some time telling us the background behind some of the songs he wrote, like the times he and his girlfriend at the time would sneak out of their windows at night and take off to New Orleans for the night and see what trouble they could find. He sang his song Like a Cowboy and dedicated it to all the military men and women who are away from their families for extended times. Randy talked about how hard it is on him being away from his family, but he is spending his time doing what he loves and they are fighting for our freedoms.

Randy’s encore was his crowd favorite Runnin Outta Moonlight! He had the audience singing along with him to end a fantastic show. I know I am bias as I have been a fan of his for many years, but I think he is one of the most underrated country singers around. Randy thanked the crowd earlier for “allowing him to stand up on stage and sing his kind of music. I don’t make songs about drinking beer and I don’t shake my booty, I just want to stand up here and sing my songs for you”. Well Randy keep doing it as we love it!
