Look Up showcases collaborations with some of the biggest names in country and Americana, including Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Lucius, Larkin Poe, and Alison Krauss. Nine of the album’s 11 songs were written or co-written by Burnett, with one penned by Billy Swan and another co-written by Starr and Bruce Sugar. The album closes with the heartfelt track “Thankful,” featuring Alison Krauss.
Starr’s lifelong passion for country music dates back to his early days with The Beatles, where he performed and wrote several country-tinged tracks such as “Act Naturally” and “Don’t Pass Me By.” His first solo country album, Beaucoups of Blues, was released in 1970. Starr’s collaboration with Burnett came about after a chance meeting in Los Angeles in 2022, where Starr asked him to write a song for an EP he was recording. Burnett returned with nine songs, inspiring Starr to create a full album.
“I’ve always loved country music,” Ringo shared. “When I asked T Bone to write me a song, I didn’t expect it to be country, but of course, it was. The songs were so beautiful that we decided to make a full album, and I’m thrilled with the result.”
Burnett echoed Starr’s excitement, saying, “Ringo changed the way drummers played. He’s also an incredible singer, especially in rockabilly and ballads. Creating this album with him was a dream come true.”
To celebrate the release of Look Up, Ringo Starr & Friends will perform two special shows at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on January 14 and 15, 2025. Tickets go on sale October 25, 2024. Fans can also tune in to TalkShopLive® on October 22 at 7 p.m. ET to catch Starr and Burnett discussing the album.
