William and Kate has a boy!

By now, Prince William and wife, Kate, are settled into their apartment at Kensington Palace with their new bundle of joy.  Kate gave birth to the 8 pound, 6 ounce Prince of Cambridge (still unnamed) on Monday, July 22, 2013.  The unnamed cherub is now third in line to throne after his grandfather Charles and father William.

As per tradition, Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, emerged from St. Mary’s Hospital in London on Tuesday evening to give the public its first view of the new heir to the British throne.  William jokes that the baby had more hair than his father and that he’d remind him of his tardiness when he get older.   After thanking everyone for their due diligence of waiting outside the Paddington Hospital doors for well over a week, William told media pundits that he hopes that “they can get back to normal now.”

All Hail the Future King!

The Prince’s arrival caused quite a stir in England as The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in Green Park fired 41 shots in tribute to the boy, while the Honorable Artillery Company at the Tower of London fired 62 rounds.

The fountains at Trafalgar Square were dyed blue; the BT Tower, a London landmark, flashed the words “It’s a boy;” and the London Eye was illuminated in patriotic red, white and blue.

And Then There’s Diana

The Prince’s birth was yet another reminder that the former Princess, Diana Spencer, left this earth too soon.  She would have been over the top excited for her darling first born.   It also reminds us of a time when she stood outside those doors with William swaddled in her arms.

But as with every death, life goes on.  William proudly announced that he has changed his first nappy and that the baby looks like Kate.  They will retire to their residence with Nannies close at hand and their rigid schedule laid out for the coming weeks.  This is a very delicate time for a new mother.   A time where Diana fought with the Royal Demons to preserve her right as Mother to her children.

We are in a new age where hopefully William and Kate can freely choose to bask in the sunlight of parenthood and the new Prince can enjoy the touch of his mother frequently.  This is what life is all about whether it’s short lived or not.

It’s the lesson Diana taught all of us as Her Royal Highness.
