Donna-SummerDisco Queen Donna Summer has died at the age of 63.  TMZ reports that Summers lost her battle to cancer on May 17, 2012.

Her family confirmed Summers’ death, saying in a statement that they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.”

Donna Summer is best known for hits like, “I Feel Love,” “Last Dance” and “MacArthur Park”.  I have to say that I belted out “She Works Hard for the Money” many times during impromptu karaoke sessions.

A former prescription drug addict, Donna Summer struggled with depression and anxiety while performing hit after hit in the 70’s.  After a nervous breakdown in 1979, Summers became a born-again Christian and refused to sing many of her songs, including “Love to Love You Baby.”

Summer leaves behind her husband, Bruce Sudano, and three daughters.   63….still gone too soon.
