2024 MusicNL Award Winner for Fans Choice Entertainer of the Year

Newfoundland and Labrador Mi’kmaq country artist Jason Benoit is back with a finely-tuned new single, “I Wanna Hear That Song.” Capturing the thrill of hearing your favorite song live, this track taps into the universal joy of singing along to beloved hits. Co-written by Benoit and long-time collaborator Gerry Foote, the single reflects Benoit’s experiences performing in Canadian country music circles for over a decade.

Benoit explains, “Everyone wants to hear a song they can sing along to, whether it’s from the artist themselves or even a cover song.” Inspired by his time on the road, particularly while touring Ontario in 2019, Benoit crafted this song as a tribute to the music that connects artists and fans in unforgettable ways. With a catchy, toe-tapping beat and expert banjo work by co-producer John Hynes, “I Wanna Hear That Song” brings to mind the radio-friendly sounds of Keith Urban and Tim McGraw.

The lyrics celebrate the magic of live music:

“Oh I never wanna leave Can we just stay here please If we get loud enough Everyone get on your feet Play the one that gets me through The one for me and you Never wanna go back home”

Benoit says the song is about the special moments when fans hear their favorite tunes live: “It’s a memory that lasts forever, creating something both magical and personal.”

Coming off a successful year, Benoit won the 2024 East Coast Music Award for Country Recording of the Year for Time Traveller and was nominated for four 2024 MusicNL awards, including Album of the Year for The Deadwood. “I Wanna Hear That Song” follows his recent single “1000 Mile Grin” and is sure to build on his rising popularity.

As Benoit continues to earn accolades and fans, “I Wanna Hear That Song” is set to become another crowd favorite, making it a must-listen for country fans everywhere.
