Plan International’s Because I’m a Girl initiative is a social movement that works towards unleashing the power of girls and women from around the world. While girls are often the poorest of the poor, it has been proven that investing in girls is the key to eliminating poverty.
October 11th has been declared by the United Nations as the International Day of the Girl Child! This day will create a foundation to advocate and recognize girls’ rights globally.

About Because I’m a Girl
After a successful campaign led by Plan Canada’s Because I’m a Girl, October 11th has been declared by the United Nations as the International Day of the Girl Child. The first ever Day of the Girl will be used to shine light on the importance of girl’s education.
Over the next 5 years, Because I’m a Girl plans to support 4 million girls to get the education, skills and support they need to transform their lives and the lives of those around them.
