A First-Timer’s Guide to CMA Fest in Nashville

Welcome to CMA Fest! If you’re reading this, you’re likely gearing up for your first trip to the Country Music Association (CMA) Fest in Nashville. This iconic event is a dream come true for country music fans, offering an unforgettable experience filled with music, fun, and Southern hospitality. To help you make the most of your time, here are some essential tips and advice.

1. Plan Ahead

  • Tickets and Passes: Make sure you purchase your tickets and passes well in advance. There are various options available, from single-day tickets to four-day passes. The more comprehensive your pass, the more access you’ll have to different stages and events.
  • Accommodation: Nashville gets crowded during CMA Fest, so book your accommodation as early as possible. Consider staying in downtown Nashville to be close to the action or look for more budget-friendly options further out with good transportation links. We stayed further out and found that we spent a great deal of money on Uber. We’ll be weighing our options next year or finding a B&B.

2. Explore the Stages

CMA Fest is spread across multiple stages, each offering a unique vibe:

  • Nissan Stadium: The main stage with big-name headliners.
  • Riverfront Stage: A popular spot with a scenic backdrop and a mix of established and rising artists.
  • Smaller Stages: Don’t miss out on the smaller stages scattered throughout downtown, like the Bridgestone Arena Plaza Stage and the Ascend Amphitheater. These often host intimate performances and emerging talent. We had the best time at Ascend!

3. Create Your Schedule

  • Lineup: The official CMA Fest app and website provide detailed schedules and lineup information. Plan your days around must-see artists but leave room for spontaneity.
  • Meet & Greets: If you’re keen to meet your favorite artists, check out the meet and greet opportunities at Fan Fair . These can fill up fast, so prioritize your top picks.

4. Pack Smart

  • Comfortable Clothing: Nashville in June can be hot and humid. Wear lightweight, breathable clothes and comfortable shoes since you’ll be on your feet a lot.
  • Essentials: Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. I found a new hydration product called DripDrop that saved me during a long hike at CMA fest. A small CLEAR backpack can be handy for carrying your essentials.

5. Stay Hydrated and Fueled

  • Food and Drink: There are plenty of food trucks and vendors around the festival. Try some local Nashville cuisine, like hot chicken or barbecue. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Nashville in June is smoking hot!
  • Breaks: Take regular breaks to rest and recharge. Find a shady spot or a nearby café to relax for a bit.

6. Experience Nashville

  • Beyond the Fest: Nashville has a lot to offer beyond CMA Fest. Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, take a stroll down Broadway, and explore the vibrant local music scene in smaller venues and bars.
  • Local Culture: Embrace the local culture by visiting historic sites, trying Southern cuisine, and chatting with locals.

7. Capture the Memories

  • Photos and Videos: Capture your favorite moments but be mindful of your surroundings and other attendees.
  • Social Media: Share your experiences on social media using the official festival hashtags (#CMAfest). This can also help you connect with other fans and discover new events or artists.

8. Safety First

  • Stay Aware: Keep an eye on your belongings and be aware of your surroundings. If you’re attending alone, let someone know your schedule and check in regularly.
  • Emergency Info: Familiarize yourself with the locations of first aid stations and emergency exits. The people at first aid are amazing! They will stock you up with water and an ice cold towel to rejuvenate and hydrate. They saved me after a long run to shoot at the Riverfront stage.

9. Have Fun!

  • Enjoy the Music: Most importantly, soak in the experience. Dance, sing along, and enjoy the incredible atmosphere. CMA Fest is all about celebrating country music and having a great time.

By following these tips, you’re set for an amazing first experience at CMA Fest. Enjoy every moment of the music, the city, and the community of fellow country music fans. Welcome to Nashville and have a fantastic time at CMA Fest!
