I have done quite a few blogs about NASCAR racing but let’s chat about where this passion started for myself and my husband. We are blessed in Southern Ontario to be surrounded by many different tracks, some on asphalt, some on dirt, some that go straight and some that go in an oval! My passion for racing started at Delaware Speedway, Located west of London, it is one of the biggest tracks around. The track is a half mile track and it is the longest running track in Ontario, opening in 1952. Delaware runs typically on Friday nights ad hosts a wide variety of racing divisions. Over the years Delaware has hosted many drivers such as Harvey Lennox, Steve Robblee, Earl Ross, Jamie Cox and DJ Kennington. https://www.delawarespeedway.com/

Now my husband grew up watching racing at Barrie Speedway which is not longer operational, but Sunset Speedway is close by, located just south of Barrie. Sunset Speedway is a 1/3 mile semi banked asphalt track that has been in operation since 1968. Typically running on Saturday evenings, May through October, hosting a variety of divisions including the APC racing series. https://www.sunsetspeedway.ca/

Full Throttle Motorspeedway presents one of the most unique tracks in Ontario, but one of the most fun to drive. Located in Varney, the track opened in 1966 and through the years has hosted many events including a wedding before the races, after which the groom hopped in a race car to run his division that evening. Full Throttle is a 1/4 mile high banked track and runs many divisions, with the Crazy Trains being the most unique. Just ask Rick Mercer from the Rick Mercer report who came to drive one, one evening. What is a Crazy Train you ask….. stay tuned and we shall find out! The high banking creates a fish bowl effect similar to the likes of Bristol Motor Speedway. https://www.fullthrottlemotorspeedway.com/

Grand Bend Motor Speedway sits on the same grounds as the Grand Bend Drag Strip offering a variety of racing options. Many young racers have gotten their start on the 1/4 mile oval track at Grand Bend. Jr Late Models, Mini Trucks, Micro Sprints and 9h carts are just some of the divisions that run there. The Drag Strip is not open every weekend, but you sure no when it is. Grand Bend Motor Speedway is also an events center offering live bands, rib fests and many other activities to go a long with the racing. You will also find a go kart track to try out your “need for speed”https://www.grandbendspeedway.ca/

Peterborough Speedway is known as Canada’s fasted 1/3 mile asphalt oval due in part to it’s banked sweeping corners. The track open in 1967 and now host a variety of divisions on a weekly basis throughout the season. Peterborough is also known for hosting a 3 day event over the Thanksgiving weekend each year. Autumn Colours is the wrap up to the season for almost all of the asphalt divisions that race across Ontario. Racers come to camp, race and celebrate the race season that was. https://peterboroughspeedway.com/

Sauble Speedway is located just outside of the Sauble Beach area and has been operating since 1969. Sauble is a 1/4 mile asphalt oval with regular events on Saturday nights through out the season. The Speedway also offers many different events such as Monster Trucks, Snow Cross racing, Demolition Derbys, Freestyle Motorcross and many car shows. https://www.saublespeedway.ca/

Now in Ontario, we also have a variety of dirt tracks. Oshweken Speedway runs on Friday nights, located in Oshweken, ON. Opened in 1996, Ohsweken Speedway is a motorsports complex and event center featuring a 3/8 mile clay oval auto racing track and 1/6 mile oval micro sprint and karting track. Oshweken hosts many events throughout the season including many drivers from the US and NASCAR who come to try and tame the track that is Oshweken. https://ohswekenspeedway.ca/

Brighton Speedway is a 1/3-mile clay stock car racing oval located on the shores of Lake Ontario in Brighton, Ont. The speedway hosts five weekly divisions on Saturday nights throughout the season. Brighton also hosts some big events that attract drivers from the US including some current and past NASCAR drivers. I am not a fan of dirt track racing personally but this track is on our schedule and my son got his first checkered flag in his division here last year so we make the trek to this track every season now for a night of racing! https://brightonspeedway.ca/

This is just a small view of the many tracks that we have across the province of Ontario. There is many that I have not mentioned both asphalt and dirt, but we do have a great variety of tracks, Up next we will chat about some of the great divisions that race at these tracks!
